Within the realization of the Horizon 2020 project “Embracing Change: Overcoming Blockages and Advancing Democracy in the European Neighbourhood,” the 2nd stakeholder committee meeting was conducted online on October 4, 2024. The event focused on the presentation of the research results by the UESA research team. Oksana Holovko-Havrysheva, UESA President, moderated the discussion. Dmytro Koval, a leading researcher in the WP4, presented the research methodology on popular uprisings and democracy shifts in the case of Ukraine, addressing episodes of the creation of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine and judiciary reform. Tetiana Kyseliova addressed the main features of peace and war linkage to the democracy shifts, focusing on the particular case of Ukraine, which stands out in contemporary peace and conflict studies, where the approach towards the peace strategies and negotiations needs to be reconsidered because of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Roman Petrov focused on the geopolitics of the EUDP, covering the impact of superpowers on the democratization processes in Ukraine, especially Russia and China, before the war and in wartime. Among the special aspects, the role of the Council of Europe in the promotion of the rule of law, legal reforms, human rights, and democracy has also been stressed.
