Bridging the cooperation between the EU and Ukraine in the Area of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy

On May 16, 2025 the UESA hosted the international conference "EU COMMON SECURITY AND DEFENCE POLICY AND UKRAINE: BRIDGING FUTURE COOPERATION" in the online format. In the keynote speech Prof. Adam Lazowski (College of Europe, Natolin, Westminster University, UK) focused on the challenges for the EU CSDF based on the EU's nature as a trade block with contractually based obligations to develop this policy aligned to the EU values in the economically interdependent world and the with geographically complex borders. The second session was devoted to impact of the Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), which have entered a new phase of urgency and redefinition. The speeches presented by experts in European law and policy (Roman Petrov, Davide Genini and Marianna Gladysh) reflect on the geopolitical, legal, and strategic transformations currently shaping the EU’s external action. During the third session of the conference the experience and research results gathered during the implementation of the Horizon Projects EMBRACE and RE-ENGAGE were shared, reflecting expereinces of the cooperation between the EU and Ukraine in the area of democracy support.
The event gathered around 30 participants from Ukraine, UK, Ireland and Italy.
