Presenting the research on EU Enlargement at Leiden University

On 26-27 June 2026 Prof. Roman Petrov attended and delivered a keynote speech at the 65th Leiden-London Conference “Flexible EU Membership amid Geopolitical Needs and Legal Constraints,” an international conference held at Leiden University, one of the oldest and most prestigious research universities in Europe.

During the conference, participants discussed the current challenges of the European Union’s enlargement policy, the development of flexible models of membership and cooperation with partner states, as well as the impact of these processes on the EU legal system.

Prof. R. Petrov briefed the participants of the conference on recent activities of the UESA. In particular, he presented results of the field work conducted the HORIZON project "RE-ENGAGING WITH NEIGHBOURS IN A STATE OF WAR AND GEOPOLITICAL TENSIONS (RE-ENGAGE) (HORIZON-CL2-2023-DEMOCRACY-01)" in 2025-2026 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Furthermore, Prof. R. Petrov introduced the concept and previous issues of the peer-review journal "Kyiv-Mohyla Law and Politics Journal" that is supported by the UESA.
